Jonny Venters

Pitched 2 scoreless innings to lower his ERA for the year to .59 and should be owned in 14 team leagues and up. Durability is a concern due to the number of innings he's already pitched but the simple fact is he is unquestionably the best non-closer in the business and will remain a ratio stabilizer throughout the season.

  1. I agree, Venters is elite. His .138 BABIP is somewhat fortunate, but supported by his 4% LD rate and 85.5% GB rate. I don't know how much stock you put into tERA, but it's at 1.37 currently, so that may indicate that his FIP (2.07) is actually misleadingly high at this point. If Kimbrel loses that closers job, Venters has top closer upside. Your thoughts?

  2. I think he'll always be one of those guys that outperforms his peripherals. The fact that anyone has to give thought to finding roster space for him even in standard 10 team mixed leagues tells you all you need to know about his performance so far this year.
